Alloga launches innovative sustainability infrastructure in Illescas for healthcare logistics

  • Alliance Healthcare's innovative new industry-wide solutions business unit's logistics capabilities increase its capacity to manage critical products, such as vaccines and other pharmaceutical treatments.
  • Divided into two warehouses of 21,000 m² each, this is the first logistics infrastructure in Spain with the Breeam 'Outstanding' sustainability certification.
  • The Illescas (Toledo) infrastructure joins the recent expansions of the Borox (Toledo) infrastructure and the new implementation in Viladecans (Barcelona)
Viladecans, January 9, 2024.- Alloga, Alliance Healthcare's business unit of logistics solutions for the entire healthcare industry, continues its growth in Spain by expanding its capabilities and commitment to innovation and sustainability, with the launch of a new 42,000 m² infrastructure in Illescas (Toledo) that provides greater storage availability for healthcare products, especially for those requiring low (2-8°) and medium temperature (15-25°C) storage.

With these new facilities, Alloga, which operates in 20 European countries, has a new infrastructure that strengthens its capacity to respond to the needs of the sector, through multi-temperature warehouses for the logistics management of vaccines and other pharmaceutical treatments, with highly demanding health requirements. In this regard, it should be noted that the company has already begun work on equipping its Illescas facilities with the necessary technology for temperature control of the warehouses, as well as implementing robotics and automation systems.

The new Illescas infrastructure will progressively expand its capacities from 2023 to 2025. Specifically, the low-temperature storage capacity (2-8°C) will increase from 2,600 pallets in 2023 to 4,500 in 2025. This means that availability for low-temperature storage will increase by 73% by 2025. Likewise, the number of pallets available for storage at 15-25°C will increase by 81% over the same period, from 74,000 units in 2023 to 134,000 in 2025 .

Likewise, by installing cutting-edge technologies, Alloga strengthens its value-added services, improving the management and serialization of promotional materials, as well as the coordination of customized returns, the preparation of export-import transactions, and co-packing, understood as the grouping of identical or different products through the use of secondary packaging to facilitate their joint sale.

Miguel Quintana, CEO of Alloga , stated that "with this new investment, Alloga confirms its role as a key player in specialized logistics management, supported by state-of-the-art facilities, including warehouses with multiple temperature zones and specific areas for product handling."

For her part, Ruth Martin Ruiz, Clinical & Health Services Director, added that “with the opening of our new facilities, we reaffirm our desire to diversify our services, always maintaining our central focus on delivering quality healthcare solutions to the patient.” She added that “we are proud to continue being a trusted partner for the industry, while expanding our capabilities to meet the evolving needs of healthcare, demonstrating that innovation and dedication are the pillars of our mission.”

Two 21,000 m² warehouses certified in sustainability

Alloga will occupy the remaining 42,000 m² of available space in the Madrid Sur Logistics Park, divided into two warehouses of 21,000 m² each. The first, recently built, has the "Outstanding" sustainability certification from Breeam (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology), awarded earlier this year, making it the first logistics warehouse in Spain to obtain this rating. It also holds the TAPA certification, awarded by the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA), which ensures that stored supply chain goods are protected against theft.

The second center will be operational in two stages, as it is still under construction. It is expected to be delivered before the end of the first half of 2024 and is also expected to achieve Breeam's "Outstanding" certification and the TAPA certification.

Each building in the Madrid South Logistics Park features a modular design measuring 23 x 12 meters to optimize rack layout, a clear storage height of 11.7 meters for increased storage volume, 270 kW of solar photovoltaic energy available for use, 50% of which will be used for self-consumption, and first-class office space.

Other Alloga logistics centers

Alloga already has a logistics platform in Borox (Toledo) , where over the last five years the company has invested heavily in technology and expanded its facilities to reach a total storage capacity of 42,000 m² and 64,000 pallets, becoming a reference center for vaccine storage.

Alliance Healthcare previously expanded its new corporate headquarters and logistics center located in the Ca n'Alemany industrial estate in Viladecans (Barcelona). With an investment of €35 million, the building occupies a surface area of 25,300 m². The facility also houses an international clinical trials hub, one of the most innovative and with the greatest growth potential, which constitutes a center of excellence for the group, supporting approximately 500 clinical trials each year.
