Event recap

Race the Sun Lake District 2026

Teams from Cencora and Alloga have successfully raised and donated £25,000 for Action Medical Research following the Race the Sun Challenge 2026 involving over 20 team members from across the business.

Participants pushed their limits in a day-long challenge involving:

- 34-mile cycle (2,000 feet elevation) 🚴

- 10.5-mile hike (1,200 feet elevation) 🚶

- 2-mile canoe 🛶

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Lake District, the team were really feeling the sun in the Race the Sun Challenge. Despite the tough conditions, every team member completed the course safely, demonstrating incredible resilience, determination, and teamwork throughout the day. Their efforts were driven by a shared goal: raising funds for vital medical research that helps save and improve children’s lives.

This year's Race the Sun took place on the International Day of Charity, a day to recognise and commemorate the efforts of charity bodies, inspirational volunteers and humanitarian workers, who go above and beyond to help others. In honour of this, we celebrate and recognise the ongoing and impactful efforts from Action Medical Research, one of the UK’s leading charities dedicated to funding research for sick and disabled babies, children, and young people. For more than 70 years, the charity has supported breakthroughs in areas that are often underfunded, particularly rare and complex conditions. Its impact has been far-reaching, including helping to advance both the polio vaccine and ultrasound scanning during pregnancy - innovations that have transformed healthcare around the world.

Lucy Holloway, Corporate Partnership and Event Management Executive, Action Medical Research said: “A huge thank you and well done to all the teams from Cencora for completing our fantastic Race the Sun challenge for a fourth year. Such an amazing achievement! Everyone’s valued support makes it possible for us to continue funding vital research to save and change children’s lives for the better. We’re so grateful to you all.”

Sam Unsworth, Head of Communications, adds: "This was a huge challenge and great personal achievement for all of us. The comradery from our teams shone through, we finished the event with a sparkle knowing we have helped to create healthier futures by supporting the remarkable work of Action Medical Research.”

The Race the Sun Challenge 2026 showcased not only the physical endurance of the Cencora and Alloga team members, but also the unwavering commitment to building a community united in supporting healthier futures through charitable fundraising and collective action.
